Inspired by quilt fabric

Where do you get your inspiration?

Fabric, quilt shows, patchwork books?

Ursula and I went to visit a (relatively) new patchwork shop near us, and she fell in love with a kit called "Precious Flowers". The kits were all gone in the colours Ursula loved, so we decided to find a big floral as a starting point for her own version.

The fabric which inspired her was a Robert Kaufman print by Leesa Chandler, called "Under the Australian Sun".

Although we started with the kit design, we wanted to showcase the wonderful fabric, so we had to find the entirs pattern section, and began working from there.

This is the largest piece in the quilt and shows the gorgeous fabric off.

I'll show you the quilt when it's done.

So where did Ursula's inspiration start?

First the Precious Flowers kit, then the Aussie fabric, and she has a one of a kind quilt.

Snail's Trail graphic quilt

Snail's Trail: an old favourite patchwork block

Kathryn is working on a wall quilt using fabrics which she bought because she loved them, and which she has been collecting for a while.

In Electric Quilt, she laid out a great graphic quilt design using the traditional block, Snail's Trail.

Here are the first few blocks Kathryn has made, arranged on the design wall in the studio at Utopia..

The quilting is a diamond grid quilted with a walking foot. The pretty floral border complete the quilt.
